A country is divided into states! Maharashtra is one of the state!

State - Chief Minister - (Chief Secretary - IAS)

Each state is divided into multiple administrative divisions.

For example Maharashtra State is divided into 5 divisions!

• Konkan - (Konkan Division)
• Paschim Maharashtra - (Pune Division)
• North Maharashtra - (Nashik Division) - contains Khandesh
• Marathwada - ( Aurangabad Division)
• Vidarbha - (Nagpur and Amravati divisions)

Administrative Division (विभागीय आयुक्त - Saurabh Rao)

Each division is made up of multiple districts. e.g. Pune division has below districts.

• Pune
• Satara
• Sangli
• Kolhapur
• Solapur

Each Administrative Division is headed by Divisional Commissioner! e.g. Pune division's commissioner is Saurabh Rao.

District (जिल्हा अधिकारी - District Magistrate - DM - Rajesh Deshmukh) - महानगरपालिका (महापालिका आयुक्त - Vikram Kumar and Murlidhar Mohol is the mayor महापौर) - जिल्हा परिषद District Council (निर्मला पानसरे) - CEO is for Zilla Parishad (R S Chavan - मुख्य कार्यकारी अधिकारी).

Each District is made up of talukas. e.g. Pune district has 15 Talukas and cities. e.g. Baramati is one of the Taluka in Pune District.

Each District is headed by Collector or District Magistrate (also called as Zillha Adhikari )! e.g. Pune District's DM is Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh. A city can have a muncipal corporation. जिल्हा परिषद (झेड. पी.) ही भारतातील जिल्हा स्तरावरील स्थानिक सरकारी संस्था आहे

Taluka (तहसीलदार - Hanumant Patil) - नगरपालिका/नगरपरिषद (मुख्याधिकारी - महेश रोकडे) - पंचायत समिती (Chairman सभापती - नीता फरांदे ) - Block development officer is for Panchyat Samiti (गट विकास अधिकारी)

Each Taluka is made of town and multiple vilages. e.g. Baramati Taluka has 116 villages and a baramati town. Karhati is one of the villages in Baramati Taluka! Each Taluka is headed by Tehsildar (Talukdar or Mamlatdar)! Subordinate of Tehsildar is called as Naib Tahsildar! Mr Hanumant Patil is the tahsildar of Baramati as of Sep 2023. A town can have a nagar parishad or city council or municipality. पंचायत समिती ही तालुका स्तरावरील स्थानिक सरकारी संस्था आहे. पंचायत समिती गावांसाठी काम करते (ब्लॉक). पंचायत समिती ही ग्रामपंचायत आणि जिल्हा परिषद यांच्यातील दुवा आहे.

Village (तलाठी) - ग्रामपंचायत - Gramsevak - Sarpanch

Each village is made up of local groups, wada and wasti! e.g. Salunke Vasti is one of the vastis in Karhati Village. Each village is headed by Talathi (Village Accountant) also called as Karanam in Andhra Pradesh, Patwari in MP, Lekhpal in UP! ग्रामपंचायती या गाव पातळीवरील स्थानिक स्वराज्य संस्था आहेत. While Talathi works in revenue department (under tahsildar) of village, Gramsevak works under BDO (Gat viakas Adhikari).
