Why the eggs get exploded in microwave

When you microwave food that doesn't contain water molecules, such as a whole egg without any added liquids, something unique can happen due to the lack of moisture. This situation can result in what is commonly referred to as an "egg explosion."

Here's why egg explosion occurs

  1. Formation of Steam: As the egg heats up in the microwave, the water content within the egg starts to evaporate and turn into steam. Eggs contain a small amount of water, primarily in the form of liquid. As this liquid turns into steam, pressure builds up within the eggshell.

  2. Pressure Buildup: The steam generated inside the egg has no way to escape, as the eggshell is a sealed container. This trapped steam creates a significant amount of pressure inside the egg.

  3. Eggshell Failure: Eventually, the pressure inside the egg becomes so high that it exceeds the strength of the eggshell. When this happens, the eggshell may rupture or explode, releasing the built-up pressure and causing a mess inside the microwave.

The severity of the "eggsplosion" can vary. In some cases, the egg may crack open and release its contents, while in others, it may burst with more force, scattering hot egg pieces across the microwave interior. It's essential to exercise caution when microwaving eggs without making any punctures or openings in the eggshell.

To avoid egg explosions in the microwave, follow these precautions:

  1. Puncture the Egg: Before microwaving an egg, make a small hole or puncture the eggshell with a pin or a fork. This provides a way for steam to escape, reducing the risk of an explosion.

  2. Use a Microwave-Safe Container: Instead of microwaving an egg in its shell, you can crack it into a microwave-safe container, such as a microwave-safe bowl or dish. Be sure to cover the container to prevent splattering.

  3. Add a Little Water: If you want to microwave an egg in its shell, you can add a small amount of water to the container to create a steam vent. This can help prevent pressure buildup. However, you should be cautious with this method as well.

I had done this experiment and it can be dangerous. So do not do it!!
