In India, some of the most popular and highly exams that attract a maximum number of students include:

  1. Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Exams: SSC conducts various exams, including SSC CGL (Combined Graduate Level), SSC CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level), and others, for recruitment to government jobs in different departments. Around 34.80 lakh candidates from across the country had applied for CGL-2022!!

  2. CBSE class 10 and 12: The total number of registered candidates for class 10 is 21.8 lakh in 2023 and around 17 Lakh students will take class 12 exam in 2023!!

  3. National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET): NEET is the entrance exam for undergraduate medical and dental courses in India. It is one of the largest medical entrance exams in the world. In 2022, 18.72 lakh students appeared for the exam!!

  4. Maharashtra state board class 10 and 12: The total number of registered candidates for class 10 is 14 lakh in 2023 and around 17 Lakh students will take class 12 exam in 2023!!

  5. Common University Entrance Test for undergraduate admissions (CUET-UG): Around 14 Lakh students appeared for the exam in 2022!!

  6. Joint Entrance Examination (JEE): JEE is conducted for admission to various engineering programs, including those at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). JEE Main and JEE Advanced are the two stages of this examination. In 2022, 10.26 Lakh students enrolled for the mains exam and around 9 Lakh students actually took test.

  7. Civil Services Examination (UPSC CSE): UPSC CSE is one of the most prestigious exams in India. It is conducted for recruitment to various civil services, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Foreign Service (IFS). In 2022, 11.35 Lakh candidates applied for prelim examination, out of which 5.73 lakh students appeared for the test! UPSC also conducts other exams like CAPF - Central armed police force.

  8. IBPS Banking and SBI PO: Around 10 Lakh students appeared for the exam in 2023!!

  9. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE): GATE is an examination for admission to postgraduate engineering programs and for recruitment to various technical and engineering jobs. In 2022, 8.45 Lakh students registed for the exam and 5.97 Lakh students appeared for the exam!!

  10. National Defense Academy (NDA) Exam: The NDA exam is conducted for admission to the NDA, where candidates are trained for a career in the Indian Armed Forces. In 2022, around 7 Lakh students registed for the exam!!

  11. MHT CET: Around 6 Lakh students appeared for the exam in 2023!!

  12. CDS SSB: Around 5 Lakh students appeared for the exam in 2023!!

  13. State Public Service Commission (PSC) Exams: Each state in India conducts its own PSC exams for recruitment to state-level administrative services, making them popular among candidates seeking government jobs within their respective states. 3.8 lakh candidates appeared for the MPSC prelims exam (Maharashtra state) in 2022. Each state has it's own commission to conduct exam. e.g. In Uttar Pradesh, we have UPPSC that conducts PCS exam!! In Bihar, we have BPSC - Bihar Public Service Commission.

  14. Common Admission Test (CAT): CAT is the entrance exam for admission to prestigious management programs, primarily at the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other top business schools in India. Around 2.2 Lakh students took CAT test in 2022.

  15. ICAI CA exam: Around 1.2 Lakh students appeared for the chartered accountant exam in 2023!!

  16. Common Law Admission Test (CLAT): CLAT is conducted for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate law programs at various national law universities in India. Around 1 Lakh students appeared for the exam in 2023!!

  17. RRB exam (Railway Recruitment Board): Railway has 21 RRBs e.g. For Mumbai division, we have mumbai board - https://rrbmumbai.gov.in/

International Exams

  1. IELTS: Around 30 Lakh students take IELTS English language proficiency exam every year!

  2. TOEFL: Around 25 Lakh students take TOEFL English language proficiency exam every year!
