Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Baramati

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Malegaon, Baramati, is an agricultural extension center and a knowledge hub dedicated to providing innovative and practical agricultural solutions to farmers in the Baramati region of Maharashtra, India. It is one of the many KVKs established by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) across the country to bridge the gap between agricultural research and farmers' fields. NCP supremo Sharad Pawar efforts led to the foundation of KVK Baramati in 1992. Spread over 110 acres, it has conducted over 4000 training activities benefiting over 13 lakh farmers.

Key Features and Activities

  1. Farmers Training and Extension Services: KVK Baramati conducts various training programs, workshops, and demonstrations for farmers to disseminate modern agricultural practices, technology, and best management practices. The center acts as a platform for farmers to learn about the latest agricultural advancements and adopt them in their farming activities. Training activities cover modern dairy farm management, fish farming, goat farming, apiculture, polyhouse management, dairy training

  2. Demonstration Plots: KVK Baramati establishes demonstration plots to showcase different crop varieties, improved agricultural practices, and integrated farming techniques. These plots serve as learning centers for farmers and encourage them to adopt new technologies.

  3. On-Farm Trials: The KVK conducts on-farm trials to evaluate the performance of new crop varieties, nutrient management practices, pest and disease control methods, and other agricultural innovations. This helps in identifying region-specific solutions and recommending the most suitable practices to farmers.

  4. Seed Production and Distribution: KVK Baramati plays a crucial role in the production and distribution of quality seeds and planting materials of improved crop varieties. This ensures that farmers have access to high-yielding and disease-resistant seeds.

  5. Livestock Development: Apart from crop-related activities, the KVK also focuses on livestock development by providing training on improved animal husbandry practices, breed improvement, and health management of livestock.

  6. Farm Advisory Services: KVK Baramati offers personalized farm advisory services to farmers, addressing their specific agricultural challenges and providing solutions tailored to their needs.

  7. Exposure Visits and Field Days: The center organizes exposure visits to successful farms and field days, where farmers can interact with experts, fellow farmers, and researchers to learn from each other's experiences.

  9. Women Empowerment: The KVK also focuses on empowering women in agriculture by providing them with training and exposure to income-generating activities.

  10. Products: They also sell various products like Boer Goat, Poultry breed, Saffkit, Bio Fertilizer, Bio Pesticides, Fruit Crops like Guava, Mango, Sapota, wheat/rice seeds, soil testing, traps and Lures etc

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Baramati, has played a significant role in enhancing the agricultural productivity and income of farmers in the region.
